Kaleidoscope is a thought exercise (condensed into a booklet) and partial implementation of what a social media timeline could look like if it was designed for balanced news consumption instead of serving the incentives created by today's advertisement-based attention capitalism. Instead of prioritizing high engagement metrics, which can result in "filter bubbles" (users are less likely to encounter content they meaningfully disagree with) and the spread of misinformation.

Kaleidoscope focus on the technical, philosophical, and design challenges of a more responsible social media experience.

This project was developed and conceptualized by Andreas Greiler Basaldua, @tandis._ and myself.
It was presented as part of the Semsteraustellung of the @designandcomputation studio 21/22.

A PSALM FOR THE BODY-BUILT

"One is not born, but rather becomes, a body." (Legacy Russell)

Bodies, especially those of marginalized identities, have been exposed to various
modes of violence, oppression and control throughout human history. In order to resist this hostile infrastructure and rediscover the essence of our bodies as complex assemblages of virtualities and
potentialities, we propose the practice of bodybuilding.
Bridging diverse theoretical underpinnings with an artistic practice, the presented interactive virtual reality installation „A psalm for the body-built“ (by Berkay Soykan @berghais and Jonny-Bix Bongers @jonnybixbongers , collaborators Janne Nora Kummer @__aka.alaska__ and Wro Wrzesińska wrowrz ) is a first attempt at creating the critical space for bodybuilding which
investigates what it means to have, and to become, a body in a technologically mediated environment. The installation presented at "Sympoietic Sites", the D&C studio exhibition, invites the subject to take on the role of a flaneur and discover an immersive landscape of artifacts, such as self-generated queer avatars, 3D scans of speculations on future bodies and AI-generated videos, mapped to a dramaturgy of operations. Inspired by readings in cyberfeminism, queer theory,
philosophy and game studies, these operations function as interventions into the subject's own bodily perception and encourage them to explore their bodies' (im)materiality, virtual manifestations, potentialities and becomings.

Interaktive Installation

“Eine Sache wird dadurch zu Luxus, dass sie von einer Person auf eine bestimmte Art und
Weise erlebt wird. Luxus ist daher immer etwas für jemanden - und zwar für jemanden, für
den der Besitz einer Sache mit einer besonderen Art von Erfahrung verbunden ist.” (Lambert
Wiesing)

Das Projekt Boutique 2XXX setzt sich kritisch mit der Frage auseinander, auf welche Weisen
sich Luxus beschreiben lässt und was Luxus in Zukunft sein könnte. Dazu werden die
vielfältigen Sichtweisen der Teilnehmenden auf das Thema in einer interaktive Installation
assoziativ verhandelt. Während die Vermittlung der Ausgangspunkte virtuell sowie textlich
funktioniert, kommunizieren die Teilnehmenden ihre Beiträge über variierende Medien. Im
Anschluss werden die Ergebnisse dann in einer digitalen Boutique ausgestellt. Die Zukunft
bietet dabei einen Raum, der die Grenzen des im Jetzt verorteten Denkens überwindet und
neue Konstellationen von Möglichkeiten offenbart.

Das Projekt (von Lucy Rolbin, Melina Gentner, Florian Porada, Jonathan Möller, Jonny-Bix
Bongers) ist im Rahmen des Studios von Design&Computation entstanden und besteht aus
drei Iterationen. Der hier gezeigte zweite Prototyp wurde in der Semesterausstellung
„Sympoietic Sites“ ausgestellt.

A.I. YOGA contains eight meditation practices for artificial intelligence, that will bring peaceful stillness, focus and reorientation to artificial members of society.

A.I YOGA returns gratitude, release and leisure back to strained and exhausted machines.

A.I. YOGA relieves the negative effects of stress and overwork by helping machines to move their energy around and thereby free themselves from being stuck in an error status and overcoming malfunctions.

A.I. YOGA is taking care of intelligent machinery as ambivalent and worth parts of society, that need to be protected from exploitation.

This album is produced for audio-visual systems with multi sensory interfaces, posthuman entities and cybernetic actors.

Johann and I facilitated a workshop called “Sola

Johann and I facilitated a workshop called “Solarpunk x Bicycles”, in which we co-created speculative bicycles. The topics of the workshop were mobility culture, the science fiction genre Solarpunk and how we can help creating prototypes that stretch our current way of thinking about futures. The scenes and bicycles that were the outcome will hopefully contribute towards promoting the use of positive images of the future. At the same time we tried to enable new ways of thinking about the future of mobility from a glocal perspective. Thanks to invitation of the Goethe Institut Bangalore and Sandbox Collective we were able to start doing workshops not only in Germany but also internationally.

During the workshop the participants gave us some insight into the practice the concept of Jugaad, which is deeply embedded in Indian (mobility) culture. It contains aspects of hacking, DIY culture, and Bricolage, but above all is its own kind of perspective and way of doing and I’m very curious to dig deeper in!

Diesmal ein älteres Projekt aus den Tiefen der Back_Up Festplatte: Bei dem Stück habe ich ein Gedicht von Richard Brautigam verarbeitet und einen Soundscape dazu komponiert. Der Witz des Textes, die Mehrdeutigkeit, der Techno-Optimismus mit Augenzwinkern finde ich nach wie vor funny und lesenswert. Viel Spaß beim anhören und <dreamspaces> imaginieren vor der inneren VR Brille.

+Es ist diesmal ist eine kleine Geschichte über Arbeit geworden. - Eigentlich über zu viel Arbeit.Es geht um Post-it Romantik und Kaffee-Fetischismus in tristen Hinterhofbüros. Und weil zu viel Arbeit ein unbeliebtes Sommerthema ist, ist "Toxic Melationship" ein analoger Agentur-Bossa mit Fahrstuhlstimmung geowrden. Die Produktion hat dieses mal mein Homeboy Julius Heil an seiner Alleinunterhalter-Rhythmus-Maschine übernommen. !!shoutouts!! <3

Das Cover ist übrigens ein Screenshot nach sechs Stunden zoom Konferenz während des Lockdowns. Als nächstes Projekt würde ich deshalb gerne ein Augenring-Quartett zusammenstellen. 😇 (es gibt noch kein emoji mit augenringen - sad).
